Architectural Shingle Roofs for Brookhaven Homes

A handsome, durable roof. Every shingle fastened exactly where it belongs.

Why the Details Under the Shingle Matter

Architectural shingles are built in layers, which gives them depth, weight and a richer shadow line than the flat 3-tab shingles found on many older homes. They also tend to stand up to wind better. Their performance, though, depends on how they are fastened and what sits beneath them. Each architectural shingle has a nail zone, a narrow band where fasteners must go to hold both layers and resist uplift. Nail too high and the lower layer is loose. Nail too low and the fastener shows or fails. The manufacturer also specifies how many fasteners per shingle, what starter goes at the edges, what underlayment goes beneath, and how valleys, walls and penetrations are handled. We follow all of it. Underlayment covers the deck fully. Leak barrier lines the eaves and valleys and wraps each penetration. Drip edge and step flashing are new. Starter strips go along the eaves and rakes. Ridge cap is the matched product, not cut-up field shingles. And we look at the attic ventilation, because shingles that bake from below age long before their time. You choose the color you love. We take care of everything that keeps it on the roof.
